Plant Essential Oils and Their Pest Control Potential

With extensive uses of synthetic pesticides, many problems have been encountered such as environmental pollution, pest resistance, residue in foods and toxicity at mammalians. Hence, researches on possible use of several constituents naturally occurring in plants have been important as synthetic pesticide alternatives. Most of which have been focused on plant-derived essential oils.
In this study, chemical properties of essential oils, their obtaining methods and their effects against agricultural pests have been reviewed.
