Many crops commercially produced in Mediterranean region, Turkey, have very often faced marketing problems and significant price fluctuations. Extending avocado production in Mediterranean region is seen as a viable alternative to overcome the problem. Turkey has a geographic advantage, with its proximity to Europe, over major exporters like Mexico, Chile, Peru, Dominic Republic, Kenya and South Africa that provides 80 % of demand. Being introduced in 1970, avocado has entertained expansion for production area in coastal region of Mediterranean region. The largest adaptation study was carried out in BATEM from 1989 to 2004 where 42 cultivars were evaluated. As a result, `Bacon`, `Fuerte`, `Hass`, `Zutano` and `Ettinger` cultivars have been recommend for commercial production in the region. Keywords : Avocado, Mediterranean region, Commercial, Cultivars
